Douglas E. Whitney

Since 1998, Doug Whitney has been a staff attorney at the Federal Defender Program in Chicago, where he has represented criminal defendants and habeas corpus petitioners in federal district court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Prior to joining the Federal Defender Program, he practiced white-collar criminal defense as an associate at King & Spalding in Atlanta, GA and was a law clerk to the Hon. Phyllis A. Kravitch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He graduated magna cum laude from New York University School of Law in 1996 and cum laude from Yale University in 1990. Before attending law school, he taught elementary school in Halifax County, North Carolina as a charter member of the Teach for America Program and worked as a program fellow for the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation in Winston-Salem, NC.
