May 9-11, 2002 at The John Marshall Law School, Chicago, Illinois Joe Whitley Joe Whitley, partner with Alston & Bird in Atlanta, Georgia, chairs the Government Investigations and Compliance Group, and concentrates his practice in the area of White Collar Criminal Defense and Compliance, representing and defending individuals and corporations in all matters relative to criminal investigations and in related complex civil litigation. Joe is also a member of the Antitrust & Investigations Group. Joe had an extensive career in the Department of Justice, serving as the Acting Associate Attorney General in the Bush Administration, the third-ranking position in the Department of Justice. He was appointed by Presidents Reagan and Bush, respectively, to serve as U.S. Attorney in the Middle and Northern Federal Districts in Georgia. He has also been in other Department of Justice positions serving under five Attorney's General. Joe is a member of the Criminal Justice Section Council of the American Bar Association and he is a frequent participant as a lecturer in national ABA programs on Health Care Fraud and White Collar Crime. He chairs several Georgia Institute of Continuing Legal programs, including the Annual White Collar Crime Program, the Cyber Crime Institute, and the Health Care Fraud Institute. Joe received his J.D. and his undergraduate degrees from the University
of Georgia.
