Joseph J. Schwerha IV Esq. presently operates as both an Assistant District Attorney for Washington County (near Pittsburgh), Pennsylvania, and as a principal in a boutique law firm dealing with intellectual property and information law. As an Assistant District Attorney, Mr. Schwerha successfully prosecuted numerous jury and non-jury trials. He serves as a "point man" for prosecuting cases involving cybercrime and digital evidence and is solely responsible for supervising those cases within his jurisdiction.

Mr. Schwerha is significantly involved with computer crime at both the National and State level. Nationally, he has helped educate investigators by serving as a special legal instructor for the National White Collar Crime Center and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. He also serves on several national committees, including being Co-Chair of Working Group on Search and Seizure of Electronic Evidence for the American Bar Association project titled "Cybercrime: An International Problem for Every Lawyer, Business & Country." Recently, he was honored to be named to the National Institute of Justice Technical Working Group on Presentation of Digital Evidence in the Courtroom.

On the state level, Mr. Schwerha has served an integral role in Pennsylvania's efforts to combat cybercrime. He is a member of several local groups, including: the Technology Committee for the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association, the Tri-State Chapter of the HTCIA, and the Pittsburgh High-Tech Crimes Taskforce, among others. Within Pennsylvania, he regularly advises all levels of law enforcement with regard to legal issues surrounding discovery, acquisition and use of digital evidence.

Mr. Schwerha holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Pittsburgh, as well as both a Bachelors and Masters of Science from Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to his current situation, he worked in two law firms, as well as clerking for a United States District Court Judge. During that time, he authored several articles that were published in various places, including the University of Michigan Journal of International Law.
